The Filipino spirit is waterproof
MANILA, Philippines - There is something to be said about the resilience of Filipinos in times of trouble.
Forget mere patriotism—we all seem to be married to the nation we were born into: rain or shine, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and health. The torrential rains that have been pouring over Metro Manila and a chunk of its neighboring provinces have many of us bereft in various ways, but it has so far been unable to extinguish everybody’s strong desire to help out.
The tenacious presence — whether physical or virtual — of the every man wishing to lend a hand implies a real sense of the sincere “bayanihan” attitude we’re all secretly proud of.
No matter what the calamity or catastrophe is set in front of us, our can-do philosophy not only trumps our collective jadedness but also motivates us to stretch our capabilities and exercise our creativity. Sure, some of us may not have a lot, but every Filipino knows that what counts is what you do with what you do have. Whether it be through a rubber boat, a flimsy piece of Styrofoam, or even a simple retweet, Young Star scoured the Internet for some examples of how Filipinos find ways to make sure every ounce of kindness goes a long way.
